More shelter homes to be built in 36 districts of Punjab: CM Buzdar

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday said the provincial government would soon build more shelter homes in 36 districts of the province, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media here, Buzdar said the government had constructed five shelter homes in Lahore alone. He hailed people who were building shelter homes on their own.

He also visited a shelter home in Rawalpindi and said over 100 beds were placed in the building to facilitate the poor.

CM Buzdar said Ramazan package would be announces soon, adding the price control committees have also been formed to check overcharging on basic commodities during the Holy month starting in May.

To a question, he dismissed reports that the provincial government was seeking a resignation from any of its ministers.

On March 9, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed officials to increase shelter homes for the poor in Punjab.

During a meeting, PM Khan was briefed that work on five more shelter homes was underway. Construction of three of the shelter homes will be completed in April, while two of them will be ready by May, the officials told the meeting.

Commissioner Lahore informed the meeting that shelter homes would be supervised by governing body comprising philanthropists.

A meeting member also proposed that philanthropists must also contribute their share in the project as well as supervising it.

PM Khan asked officials to take every possible step for construction of shelter homes.
