ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal has suspended additional director Muhammad Rafi over handcuffing the former Vice Chancellor of Punjab University.

According to the details, NAB chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday visited the NAB Lahore office and suspended the case officer over producing the academic in handcuff before the court.

He took strict notice of the issue and ordered to form a new investigation team to probe the issue. Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal also wrote a letter to IG Punjab to suspend ASI Mukhtar Ahmed.

Earlier on October 13, the Supreme Court had accepted the written apology of Director General NAB Lahore for producing former vice chancellor of Punjab University and other teachers in chains before an accountability court.

The NAB officials had produced former VC Mujahid Kamran, four former registrars and an additional registrar before the court handcuffed amid tight security.

Chief Justice in a suo moto hearing of the incident said that the court would not accept disrespect of a teacher.

The D.G. NAB accepted the mistake and begged pardon in a written apology on the orders of the court.

The D.G. NAB in his statement said that Prof. Mujahid Kamran and other teachers were handcuffed due to security concerns.
