ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson to the Prime Minister, Nadeem Afzal Chan, on Friday urged that accountability and politics should run separately, ARY News reported.

In his latest statement, Chan said that the nation was in favour of accountability of powerful personalities.

The official said that Hamza Shehbaz should appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) himself if summoned by the institution.

Chan slammed the opposition leaders, saying that they only praised the system when given relief, otherwise they always found faults in it after any action being carried out against them.

The former rulers should remember the fact that they cannot run their politics without the institutions, he added.

He clarified that not a single corruption case was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The government was also ready for charter of economy and accountability.

The PM’s spokesperson made the statement after Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz levelled allegation that NAB has violated the court orders when they conducted a raid at his residence in Lahore’s Model Town earlier in the day.

Punjab Assembly opposition leader added that, even the Supreme Court has said NAB has become politicised and because of their policies Brigadier (retd) Asad Munir committed suicide.

Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team returned after conducting a raid at the residence of Hamza Shehbaz.

The bureau’s team comprising seven to eight members raided at 96 H residence of Hamza Shehbaz along with his arrest warrants issued by the Chairman NAB Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal, in assets beyond known sources of income.

However, the team was denied and resisted from arresting Hamza Shehbaz despite showing arrest warrants to Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz, who were present at the 96 H residence in model town.

A large number of PML-N workers reached the residence of Hamza Shehbaz and observed sit-in at the main gate of the residence. The agitated PML-N workers also tortured NAB team and torn clothes of an official.
