Nawaz, Maryam placed on ECL following Avenfield reference verdict

ISLAMABAD: The names of former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Sources privy to Interior Ministry shared that Interior Secretary has approved the request of placing  Nawaz and Maryam, convicted in a corruption reference, on the ECL.

Owing to the sentence given to the duo in Avenfield reference, the ministry decided to put a travel ban on the convicts, a source told ARY News.

The convicted father and daughter are in London currently, and expected to return to Pakistan on Friday.

In the verdict of Avenfield reference, an accountability court handed out seven-year imprisonment to the former premier’s daughter Maryam Nawaz and a fine of £2 million. She has been awarded an additional one year’s imprisonment on charges of forgery, using Calibri font to fabricate Avenfield properties trust deeds.

Whereas, her husband retired Captain Safdar has been awarded one year’s jail term.

Moreover, the judge also ordered confiscation of the Sharif family’s London properties in question in the case.
