ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Friday said a meeting of his party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) has been called to discuss the launch of a probe against him for allegedly sending $4.9 billion to India.

Speaking to reporters at the accountability court in Islamabad, he said the CEC meeting will discuss the charges levelled against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Sharif said this is a serious matter and that the PML-N has taken it seriously. How more serious circumstances will be than the present ones, he asked.

He said those who are behind this all will have to find a way out.

The PML-N Quaid shied away from answering the questions about whether his party’s maverick and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar will be awarded a ticket for the upcoming general elections and that NAB has summoned his nephew MNA Hamza Shahbaz in a graft case.

A day earlier, addressing a press conference, the ex-PM lamented that the inquiry initiated against him was just on the basis of a ‘mysterious’ column published in a local Urdu daily.

Reading out a scripted content of his presser, Sharif referred to the press release issued by NAB in money laundering case and said “it proved how the NAB chief conducted character assassination and made it a mission to malign me.”

He recalled that his name wasn’t even included in the Panama Papers, “but what happened next from the JIT formation to everything that ensued will be remembered as black chapter in the history.
