LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz left for London on Thursday (today) to see ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

The father and daughter duo will return after spending Eid days with Begum Kulsoom, who has been admitted in a London hospital for cancer treatment.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had requested the interior ministry to put the names of the former premier and his daughter on the exit control list (ECL).

According to earlier reports, the two PML-N leaders had booked their seats on the London-bound flight of a private airline.

“Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are leaving for London on Thursday and will return after a week’s stay,” said Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz expressed the hope that she would be spending Eidul Fitr with her ailing mother.

“I will hopefully spend Eid with my mother. Her radiotherapy has been completed and the doctors will re-examine her on June 17,” Maryam Nawaz told reporters after the scrutiny of her nomination papers.

The NAB has not just requested the interior ministry to put the names of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on the ECL, but also those of his two sons and son-in-law because they are being tried in an accountability court.

The bureau had also asked the ministry to put the name of former finance minister Ishaq Dar on the ECL and initiate the process to bring him back to the country as well as the two sons of Nawaz Sharif through the Interpol.

Meanwhile, the accountability court will continue its hearing of the Avenfield reference today, as the counsel of Maryam Nawaz will continue his concluding arguments in the case.
