KARACHI: In a country-wide crackdown against tax defaulters, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) arrested nine people besides seizing their properties and vehicles.

According to details, the FBR also froze 4,000 bank accounts in its operation, which was launched three months ago, against all defaulters.

A total of nine people were nabbed from across Pakistan, meanwhile, 78 properties and 46 vehicles were confiscated by the FBR team.

Officials of the board said Rs 8.2 billion have been recovered from tax evaders so far during the crackdown.

Earlier, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan on March 16 had said that “troublesome time has begun for tax evaders.”

“Just pay the due tax so that you do not have to face any predicament,” Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan warned in a statement.

He had said if tax net was expanded then ratio of sales tax could also be reduced.

Eulogising the business community, he further said the business community runs the economy as well as it provides employments. He said if somebody has paid less tax, he should not be regarded as a thief but he should be given a chance.
