IHC hears disqualification petition against PML-N MNA Noorul Hassan Tanvir

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday held the hearing of disqualification petition filed against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Member of National Assembly (MNA), Noorul Hassan Tanvir, ARY News reported.

The hearing was conducted by IHC’s Justice Amir Farooq where the lawmaker appeared along with his lawyer Mian Faisal.

The prosecutor pleaded the high court to declare disqualification of the legislator under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution over alleged possession of Iqama (work permit).

Defence lawyer apprised that Tanvir had filed a miscellaneous application against the writ and their stance should be heard in next hearing.

Tanvir said that his opponent faced failures in past as well. He claimed that the petitioner had filed a disqualification petition against him by using the name of his driver.

Later, the court adjourned hearing till April 24.

The Islamabad High Court had issued notices to MNA Noorul Hassan Tanvir, Secretary National Assembly and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the case on February 8.

On February 2, former minister and Pakistan Muslim League Zia (PML-N), Ijaz-ul-Haq, had filed a petition against the winning candidate Tanvir, seeking his disqualification for allegedly possessing valid Iqama and bank accounts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The petition stated that the PML-N lawmaker had not disclosed details in his nomination papers during the 2018 general polls.

Noorul Hassan Tanvir had won election from NA-169 constituency Bahawalnagar-IV by securing 91,763 votes while Ijaz-ul-Haq of PML-Zia stood second by getting 72,461 votes and an independent Shaukat Mehmood grabbed the third position with 52,050 votes.
