Officials responsible for gas overbilling to face action: Ghulam Sarwar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Saturday said the gas-related problems and complaints from Balochistan will be resolved soon, ARY News reported.

Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum, Khan said the Petroleum Division was in constant contact with the provincial government of Balochistan. “A strategy has also been devised to stop gas theft in the province,” he informed.

He said officials responsible for over-billing would face action. He informed the deficit of the gas sector has reached Rs 154 billion.

He said the government would provide relief to the common man. “We are going to bring good reforms in the gas sector.”

Ghulam Sarwar said that three committees had been formed to probe the inflated gas bills.

He said that an inquiry report would be submitted by March 22  and pledged to take strict action against the people found responsible for the inflated gas bills.

In compliance with the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s direction, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited on March 11 had  announced to compensate overbilled gas consumers, said a spokesperson.

The spokes person had said that the extra amount charged from the gas consumers would be adjusted in the next month’s bills.

He had said that SNGPL’s all regional offices were collecting data of bills with pressure factor so as to compensate the consumers.
