KARACHI: At least two raids conducted by ARY News’ Zimmedar Kaun team along with Sindh Food Authority (SFA) and Additional Deputy Commissioner Malir Syed Shujaat Hussain led to the disposal of a large quantity of oil prepared from dead animals’ bones and sealing of shops selling the oil in Karachi.

The Zimmedar Kaun team, on a tip off, raided several shops in Nazimabad, Federal B Area and Water Pump area of the city and found substandard cooking oil being sold both loose and in packaging.

As seen in the show aired on December 9, the oil and ghee shop owners had stored edible oil and ghee in unhygienic conditions, were selling unregistered brands and had no system to check the quality of their product.

SFA officials took samples from all such shops and sealed them until tests reveal the quality, hygiene and nutritional value of the loose oil.

In the second raid, Zimmedar Kaun team reached Additional Deputy Commissioner Malir Syed Shujaat Hussain’s office and demanded help in raiding and taking legal action against people preparing oil through dead animals’ bones and fats.

The area in Karachi’s famous Bhains colony was full of vultures feeding over dead animal’s carcasses while dirty containers were being used to prepare ghee and oil from dead animals’ bones and fats.

As the people preparing such oil fled the area, the Zimmedar Kaun team saw that most of the dead animals brought there were dead buffaloes from nearby dairy farms.

The oil seized in the raid was immediately disposed of while the additional commissioner issued orders to seal the place.
