Pakistan highly values its engagements with UN: information minister
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Wednesday said Pakistan highly valued its engagements with the United Nations (UN) and acknowledged the contribution of UN agencies to complement the country’s developmental needs in line with its national priorities and policies.
He said this in a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne, who called on him in Islamabad.
The minister said that current Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf dispensation was fully committed to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development.
He also said that the government was looking forward to work closely with the UN team in areas beneficial for the people of Pakistan.
Earlier in June this year, a top United Nations (UN) official praised the positive role of Pakistan at the global body in promoting peace and advancing various other causes of the UN.
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communication Alison Smale expressed her thoughts during a reception organized by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi in New York.
“Pakistan’s police contribution is the largest in peacekeeping forces of the UN,” she said while asserting that Pakistani troops risk their lives to carry forward the UN’s mission of peace.
