Pakistan has always played supportive role for peace in Afghanistan: Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday said Pakistan has always played a supportive role for bringing peace back in Afghanistan, ARY News reported.

“Islamabad and Kabul have joint future and there will be no development if there is no peace in Afghanistan,” he stated while addressing a ceremony orgazined to honour Afghan students studying in Pakistan.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said over 50, 000 Afghan students have studied in Pakistani institutions and now they are serving in their own country while contributing in the capacity building of Afghanistan.

He said over 6,000 Afghan students are currently studying in various institutions of Pakistan.

Mr Qureshi said both the countries [Pakistan and Afghanistan] are linked in historic, cultural, and religious bond ,”We expect cooperation and better understanding from Afghanistan to root out menace of terrorism,” he contented.

“China is also playing a proactive role for peace, stability, and development of Afghanistan,” he continued.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, had arrived in Islamabad, yesterday, soon after Prime Minister Imran Khan, had received a letter from US President Donald Trump, seeking Pakistan’s help in Afghan peace talks.

Earlier on November 27, Minister for Planning and Development, Makdhoom Khusro Bakhtiar, had said Pakistan is committed to make meaningful contribution in the reconstruction and rehabilitation effort of Afghanistan by carrying out various development activities in the country.

He was chairing the 14th meeting of the committee for reconstruction and rehabilitation of Afghanistan in the federal.

He underlined that the PTI government is committed to work in tandem with the Afghan government to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects.
