Pakistan, Sri Lanka agree to work together for regional peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Saturday agreed to work together to achieve the shared goal of regional peace and development.

This agreement was reached during a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and his Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena in Islamabad today.

The two leaders discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations. They agreed to further deepen their trade relations.

During the meeting, they also agreed to make the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) more effective.

In his remarks, President Mamnoon Hussain laid emphasis on the need for greater ‘people to people’ contacts between the two countries.

The Sri Lankan president thanked the Pakistani side for awarding scholarship to Srinlankan students and officers.

President Sirisena, who is in Pakistan on a three-day visit, was the guest of honour at the military parade held on the Parade Ground in the federal capital to mark Pakistan Day on March 23.
