Pakistan’s HC in Ottawa observes Kashmir Black Day

OTTAWA: Pakistan’s high commission (HC) in Ottawa observed Kashmir Black Day in support of the struggle of the people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement released from the ministry, the event was largely attended by the locals, Kashmiris and Pakistan-origin Canadians.

While speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada Tariq Azim Khan underlined the importance of the documented report of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights about the atrocities in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Tariq Azim said that it is not possible to crush the spirit of Kashmiris who are struggling for their right to self determination. He urged the International community to constitute a Commission of Inquiry to analyze human rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir, reads the statement.

He informed the audience that the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir has deteriorated not only from a human rights perspective but also with regards to freedom of information and restrictions placed on the local media. Indian Occupied Kashmir has been closed for media, international observers, doctors and paramedic staff, he added.

Tariq Azim also urged the international community to fulfill their commitments towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the UN Security Council resolutions.
