Pakistan’s Parliament House switched to solar energy

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Green Parliament Project’ – a one megawatt of solar power plant – that will run Parliament on solar energy.

Mr. Sharif appreciated the initiative of Speaker National Assembly and the Senate Chairman for making the country’s parliament the first in the world to run entirely on solar power.

At the time of inauguration, prime minister was accompanied by Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong along with other top officials.

Pakistan parliament has become the first and only parliament in the world to be run on solar power.

Addressing a ceremony in connection with launching of solar power plant at the parliament house in Islamabad, the prime minister reaffirmed the commitment to end power outages by 2018.

He said it is encouraging to note that the parliament’s solar plant will not only meet its own energy requirements but the additional electricity will be contributed to the national grid..

He said he is personally monitoring progress on various power projects launched in different sectors.
