Pemra ban on ARY News widely condemned

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Friday suspended the license of ARY News for 15 days without offering a chance to  the channel to clarify its position, ARY News reported.

A fine of Rs 10 million has also been imposed on the news channel.

The ban on the news channel by the regulatory authority has been widely condemned by the journalists bodies, politicians and people from all walks of the life in the country.

The journalists organizations have announced countrywide protest against the Pemran ban on ARY News. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) have announced protests against the ban on the media and curbs on the freedom of expression in the country.

Pakistan Press Club London has also passed a resolution condemning the ban on ARY News.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan People’s Party’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have condemned the ban on ARY News and demanded immediate withdrawal of the ban on the news channel.
