Plea seeking to annul Asif Zardari, Hamza’s arrests filed in LHC

LAHORE: A plea has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) pleading the court to annul arrests of former president Asif Ali Zardari and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in fake bank accounts case while Hamza was taken into custody in assets beyond means reference.

The plea filed by senior advocate AK Dogar pleaded has pleaded the court to annul the arrests of the aforesaid leaders.

“According to NAB Ordinance’s section 24, the arrests made by the bureau are illegal”, Dogar stated in his plea.

The federal government and other institutions have been made respondent in the plea.

It may be recalled that Hamza, who appeared before the bench to request an extension in his bail which expired on June 11, was arrested by a NAB team from the court premises following the dismissal of the bail.

Meanwhile, former president and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was taken into custody by a NAB team from Zardari House, Islamabad, following the Islamabad High Court’s decision to turn down his bail plea in the mega money laundering cases on June 10.
