PM Abbasi chairs Council of Common Interests meeting
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday chaired a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) here, ARY News reported.
The CCI meeting had an 11-point agenda. During the meeting, the initial results of the sixth housing and population census are likely to be discussed, sources said.
The polices regarding water and forest were also put forward for approval, while the proposal suggesting an increase in water supply to Karachi and LNG deals were also part of the agenda.
Matters pertaining to form a fiscal coordination committee, Katchi canal corruption investigation were also brought under light.
Following the meeting, all the chief ministers called on the prime minister separately and discussed development and other provincial issues.
The eight-member council was reconstituted by the new prime minister Abbasi on August 18, comprising four members from Punjab.
The dissolved CCI – under former PM Nawaz Sharif – had equal representation- two members each from the four provinces.
In aftermath of reconstituting the council, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have lost a member each. Besides the four provincial chief ministers, the CCI now comprises the federal ministers for inter-provincial coordination, finance, industries and production.
The CCI was scheduled on July 31 earlier but could not be convened due to the disqualification of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in the Supreme Court’s landmark July 28 verdict.
