ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has felicitated Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on assumption of office as Prime Minister of Malaysia. Mahathir has become the world’s oldest elected leader after the poll victory.
In his message of felicitation, the prime minister said, “It gives me immense pleasure to extend to your excellency and the brotherly people of Malaysia our deepest felicitations on the success of Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election.”
The prime minister while congratulating Dr.Mahathir Mohamad on assumption of office as Prime Minister of Malaysia said the unprecedented victory of Pakatan Harapan was a clear demonstration of Malaysian people’s trust in his dynamic and inspirational leadership.
He said that the relationship between the two brotherly Muslim countries had grown from strength to strength over decades.
The prime minister said he was sure that under the leadership of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the bilateral relations would be further broadened and deepened in diverse fields, particularly economic and trade.
The prime minister wished good health and happiness and pray for the continued prosperity of the fraternal people of Malaysia.
In a stunning political upset that took pundits by surprise, Mahathir’s opposition alliance ended the long hold on power of the Barisan Nasional coalition, which has been in power in Malaysia since its birth as an independent country in 1957.
The thumping victory capped a dramatic political comeback for Mahathir, who previously ruled the country with an iron fist for 22 years and came out of retirement to take on Prime Minister Najib Razak after the leader became embroiled in a massive corruption scandal.
