PM Imran urges Muslim unity against blasphemous caricatures

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday took a strong stance on the issue of the blasphemous caricatures in the Netherlands. 

In a video message, the prime minister urged for unity to giving a strong message over the issue which has hurt that have hurt sentiments across the Muslim world.

He categorically stated that this is not the issue of a few people, but has hurts the feelings of the community of over a billion Muslims across the globe.

“The caricatures in Holland is blasphemy in the glory of the beloved and esteemed Holy Prophet (PBUH). This is not the issue of few but Muslims across the world.

“The people in the West don’t realise that Holy Prophet (PBUH) lives in our hearts. And any disrespect hurts the sentiments of all Muslims.”

He said that the Western world does not look towards religion in the same as Muslims and we need to unite to give them a strong message. “This will not happen when just one Muslim country take a stance or summons the ambassador to register their protest,” he said.

He further said the Muslim world needs to unite under the banner of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and protest in the upcoming session of the United Nations.

“It is up to the Muslim world to take a united stand, and be unanimous in its assertion at the upcoming United Nations session that our sentiments are hurt by the repeated incidents of blasphemy,” he asserted.

He said that Pakistan will lead the narrative along with countries of the OIC for laws to be introduced ot protect a peaceful global community against disrespect of such a manner.

“It is not form of freedom of expression to hurt the sentiments of a community of a billion people across the globe,” he said.

PM Imran said the he has instructed Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi who has has already reached out to several countries of the OIC to register a strong protest in the UN.

He said that a handful of anti-religion individuals spread mischief and discord and malign Islam to rile up the Western world under the guise of freedom of expression.

“We need to make them understand and also register a strong protest that the sentiments of over a billion Muslims and we will succeed.”
