PM, president, army chief condole demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Mian Nawaz Sharif’s wife and former MNA Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London after a month-long battle with cancer, ARY News reported.

The lady, who remained an active political worker till 2017, was suffering from throat cancer in London’s Harley Street Clinic since June.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Dr Arif Alvi and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed grief and sorrow over her demise.

“Sad to learn of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s death. She was a courageous woman of great dignity and confronted her disease with fortitude. My condolences and prayers go to the Sharif family,” the premier wrote in a tweet.

In a separate statement, Imran commiserated with family of the deceased and directed to provide all facilities to the family and heirs of Kulsoom Nawaz as per the law.

He has directed the Pakistani High Commission in London to assist in provision of all necessary facilities to the heirs of the deceased.

Arif Alvi condoled the bereaved family.

Expressing grief and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the COAS prayed, “May Allah bless the departed soul eternal peace at heaven, amen.”

Politicians from various political parties and high-level government officials also expressed deep grief over the death.

Those, who extended condolences, include Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former president Asif Ali Zardari, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders of the party, Qaumi Awami Tehreek Chief Ayaz Lateef Palijo, Awami National Party Chief Asfandyar Wali, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Amir Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaisar, Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri, Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Khan Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala.

They paid rich tribute to Kalsoom Nawaz’s social and political services, she rendered during his life. They prayed eternal peace for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
