PM Imran to chair meeting on polio eradication

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair meeting of National Task Force on Polio Eradication on Friday in the federal capital.

To ensure complete eradication of the disease from the entire country, important decisions will be taken in the high-level meeting, sources said and added that PM’s focal person will brief the meeting on polio eradication.

All the four chief ministers, chief sectaries, representatives of the Pakistan Army, interior ministry and officials of the National Task Force on polio eradication will table their proposals in the meeting. Representatives of WHO, UNICEF and international donors are also expected to attend the meeting.

PM says govt fully committed to ending polio in Pakistan

Prime Minister Imran Khan, on October 24, reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicating polio-virus from the country.

In a message on the occasion of World Polio Day, the prime minister had said: “Our government is fully committed to ending polio in Pakistan.”

“On World Polio Day, I am confident that together with our people we will achieve a safer, healthier and polio-free Pakistan for our children.”

Lately, the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for Polio Eradication reported two new polio cases in Gadap area of Karachi and a tribal district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of polio cases in the country to six this year.

The victims were 42 month-old girl from Gadap and 55-month old girl from Khyber tribal district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
