PM says will introduce fresh local bodies system to empower people

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said the federal government will remove the faults in existing local government system to serve the people in the best possible way.

PM Imran Khan met with Punjab cabinet members in Lahore and took them into confidence on local government system and housing program. He said the purpose of local government system is public welfare so that people at the grass root level are empowered.

He said this system will ensure completion of developmental projects on time, and there will be a complete check on financial irregularities in the local government system. He directed the Punjab cabinet to ensure timely legislation on this issue.

He maintained that by-elections are very important for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a full-fledged election campaign needs to be launched for success.

Referring to encroachment drive, the prime minister said the provincial government should take all out steps to recover government lands from encroachers and federal government will provide all out assistance in this task.

He also urged the provincial government not to cause inconvenience to poor people in anti-encroachment drive. He said that government buildings and lands should be employed for useful purposes.

He asked the support of provincial government in nation-wide cleanliness and plantation campaigns. The prime minister directed that all targets set in the 100-day plan be completed on time.

Earlier PM Imran Khan has held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and discussed matters of mutual interest and affairs related to the province. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar was also present in the meeting.
