PM directs to provide foolproof security to candidates, political gatherings

QUETTA: Caretaker Prime Minister Nasir-ul-Mulk has directed for all possible measures to ensure security of candidates and public participating in political rallies and corner meetings for the general elections.

The prime minister, while chairing a meeting on law and order on Sunday, strongly condemned the recent terrorist incidents in Mastung and Bannu in scores of people lost their lives.

PM Mulk stressed upon the need for taking political leadership on board about the security arrangements and to secure their cooperation to avoid any further untoward incident.

He said that a public awareness campaign should be launched immediately, in coordination with all concerned stakeholders, to sensitise general public about the need to strictly adhere to security procedures.

The meeting reviewed overall law and order situation in the province in general and in the wake of Mastung tragedy in particular.

Chief Secretary Balochistan Dr Akhtar Nazir briefed about the arrangements being made for peaceful and smooth conduct of the general elections in the province.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts of armed forces and civil administration for evacuation of the injured of the Mastung tragedy.

The meeting was attended by Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Allauddin Marri, Commander Southern Command Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa along with other senior civil and military officials.

Earlier, the prime minister visited Sarawan House in Quetta and offered condolences with the bereaved family of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Siraj Raisani who was martyred in Mastung terrorist attack.

PM Mulk also visited CMH Quetta to inquire about the health of the injured of Mastung tragedy and prayed for their swift recovery.

The country observed a day of national mourning to express solidarity with the victim families of the recent terror attacks.
