ISLAMABAD: After much deliberations and consideration, the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has finally decided to field candidates against disgruntled leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

It was earlier speculated that Nisar would not be issued a ticket after disagreements with the PML-N leadership. The former interior minister is contesting elections as an independent candidate.

However, the PML-N has issued a ticket to Raja Qamar-ul-Islam from NA-59 and PP-10, while Mumtaz Khan has been issued a ticket from NA-63. Faisal Qayyum Malik has been awarded a ticket for the PP-12 constituency.

Nisar, who has been estranged with party leadership since several months, appeared to soften his stance during a presser on Friday, stating that his remarks were misrepresented and taken out of context.

He also lashed out at opponents aiming to exploit his estrangement, saying he can never think of harming the party and has stood behind under all circumstances.

Ultimately it was reported that PML-N supremo and deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif would take a final decision over fielding candidates against Nisar.

The party was also pondering alternatives if it did not field any candidate but finally announced contest against him. Nisar has won the constituency several times and is still a favourite despite contesting as an independent candidate.
