LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz on Tuesday rejoiced at the party’s success in the by-elections saying that the were vindicated in the people’s court.
“We were destined to be vindicated in the people’s court during the by-elections. The people have differentiating between right and wrong,” he said while addressing media.
He said the PML-N won seats in Lahore, Swat, Faisalabad and Attock, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had to pay the price and couldn’t even secure their vacated seats.
He also decried the extension in physical remand granted to PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), saying that one who served the province for ten years was being arrested without any evidence.
He said that Shehbaz Sharif’s arrest was a mockery of justice and that NAB was turning a blind eye towards it, alleging that the government particularly Prime Minister Imran Khan was behind it.
“We are proud of Shehbaz Sharif for the saving the nation’s wealth. He will be acquitted and return home gracefully,” he said.
He also criticised Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi for rampant corruption in the province during his era as chief minister, and that his son had also served jail time in the infamous NICL scandal.
He said that people reposed confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif in the by-elections. He also decried the hike in the value of the dollar which he said crashed the stock market. “PTI is not a party of players, but novices.”
The PML-N leader said that a parliamentary committee has been formed to probe alleged rigging in the general elections and the matter will be much clear now.
He added that they are enjoying themselves by sitting in the opposition, and the lies of the government will be further exposed.
