KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Zaidi, on Monday announced induction of new vessel in fleet of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, ARY News reported.

In a tweet, the minister said:” It gives me great pleasure to inform the Pakistani nation that PNSC has added to its fleet a MoGas Carrier LR-1 vessel on March 25, 2019. The ship named Bolan will help reduce the dependency on foreign vessels & save millions of $’s in freight. Another step towards self reliance!”

Zaidi also congratulated the chairman, the board & management of PNSC for successful acquisition. He added: “Inshallah another vessel will be added to the PNSC fleet before the end of Summer 2019.”

In November 2017, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation had inducted two Aframax-category tankers. The PNSC Chairman Arif Elahi had made this announcement in a recent meeting with director General of Defence Purchase (DGDP).

The meeting recognised the importance of having a national merchant fleet as it provides essential capability for the movement of seaborne cargo in  national emergencies.

The national fleet also helps protect the nation’s sea trade from total domination and control from foreign flags, stated Mr Elahi, adding that it equally helps in generating a pool of skilled seafarers.
