KARACHI: Complying with the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Traffic’s orders, the police on Friday intensified the on-going campaign against “fake and fancy” number plates, reported ARY News.

Fines were imposed on many cars including a car from the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) counsel which was impounded as well.

Aired visuals showed policemen checking cars at various checkpoints throughout the city and confiscating all the fake and fancy number plates. “No other country’s number plate can be used on cars,” said a traffic policemen.

While commenting on impounding a UAE counsel vehicle, he added that, “if a Pakistan number plate cannot be used in UAE then a Dubai number plate cannot be used on cars here as well.”

According to sources, number plates bearing the government of Pakistan monogram are legal only. “The vehicles will only be released after the original number plate is put back on the car and then a challan is issued.”
