KARACHI: Police on Saturday seized seven motorbikes with fake license number plates during a crackdown in Karachi, ARY News reported.
During snap-checking in Quaidabad, five motorcycles with fake number plate have been confiscated.
Airport police seized two motorbikes with fake number plates of Sindh Police department.
On March 21, Inspector General of Sindh Police Dr Kaleem Imam had directed police to launch ‘an organised crackdown’ against motorcycles and other vehicles using fake Sindh Police license number plates across the province.
Dr Kaleem Imam had directed all the relevant authorities and departments to launch a seven-day drive in this regard, starting on March 20.
“It has been observed with great concern that there are number of vehicles witnessed with fictitious Sindh Police number plates plying on the roads particularly in Karachi.
“It is believed that these vehicles are left unchecked and considered unsuspicious by the police units, patrolling within their respective limits,” read the letter issued by the operations AIG police.
The AIG had said such ignorance provided opportunity for the criminals to easily roam around for their ulterior motives. The issue required appropriate attention and immediate measures to curb the tendency of such violation, he had added.
