KARACHI: In what appears to be a brazen display of inhumane treatment, a policeman kept filming a suspect, who writhed about in pain after being shot and injured in a “shootout” with police personnel in Qasba Colony, in lieu of shifting him to hospital, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
In a video clip, the suspected criminal can be seen writhing about while the policeman describes the circumstances leading to his being injured by the police team during the encounter.
The cop says the accused opened straight fire at the police team that narrowly escaped unhurt and responded by shooting him in the leg.
Justifying the policeman’s act, SSP West Shaukat Ali Khatiyan said the purpose behind filming the injured suspect was to record evidence. He said the injured was moved to a medical facility for treatment in a timely manner.
The incident comes days after the killing of Irshad Ranjhani, the city president of the Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST), by union council chairman Rahim Shah in Bhains Colony of the Shah Latif Town.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had on yesterday (Feb 11) ordered removal of Karachi police chief, Additional Inspector General Karachi Dr Amir Sheikh over the incident.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly today, CM Shah said police officers, who witnessed the killing of Irshad Ranjhani, were also involved in the murder.
“Did the police not see Irshad Ranjhani lying in the pool of blood and dying,” asked the chief minister in his speech. He demanded the cops involved in the case should be arrested forthwith.
He had he also called for judicial inquiry into the matter within 24 hours. Ranjhani was shot five times from a point blank range, said the CM.
