Eight policemen arrested as CM Sindh assures justice in Intizar’s murder

KARACHI: Eight policemen have been arrested in the murder of a youth who was allegedly killed by a unit of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell in Defence Housing Authority area, ARY News reported.

Two police officers on Sunday evening voluntarily handed themselves over to the Darakshan police station. Earlier Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal confirmed that four policeman have been arrested.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the house of Intizar Ahmed and offered his condolences to the victim’s family. He said that being a father he feels the pain and agony of the family particularly his father Ishtiaq Ahmed.

He directed Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Mahar to add the most efficient officer to the investigation and and keep him informed about progress in the case. He also said that the investigation should be held as suggested by the victim’s family.

CM Sindh also offered to conduct judicial inquiry into the murder of Intizar Ahmed who was killed by ACLC. He said the murder of Intizar by the police is unacceptable and assured that the killers would be brought to book.

He directed AIG Karachi to inspect CCTV footage and also show it to the victim’s father. He said that since the murder has been committed by the police, therefore investigation must be transparent so that nobody can accuse the police  of partiality. He also ordered to keep Intizar’s family into confidence and informed about every step of the investigation.

Talking to media, the chief minister said that some of policemen including SHO ACLC have been arrested  while some others are absconding.

Furthermore, he said that there is some other important information the police have shared with him, but he cannot reveal as it could affect the investigation. “I cannot share it with the media right now because it would affect the investigation process but I assure you that the killers would not be spared,” he said.

Intizar’s father said the chief minister has assured him of justice. He said that his son was innocent and was driving his car when he was shot dead when he had gone to visit his friends on Saturday evening.

He said that they have lodged a complaint and investigation authorities are making use of the CCTV footage to probe the matter. He said that there were conflicting report about his son’s deaths, and any dispute or war of words with other youngsters was not reason enough for his killing as the police is supposed to be for their safety and security.
