ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said on Monday she was well aware of what offense she had committed.

Speaking to reporters after her appearance before the NAB court, she said she showed up before the court despite having reservations over the way the Sharif family was being subjected to accountability.

She said the way they were held to account was evident to everyone. “This is not accountability, instead it is revenge,” she claimed.

Maryam said the case was instituted against her because she is the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The Sharif family was not afraid of arrests, she said while denouncing her spouse’s arrest at the hands of NAB officials after their arrival at Islamabad airport in the early hours of Monday morning.

Referring to non-bailable warrants issued for the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan and PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, she said they were freely addressing public meetings despite the fact that the warrants were issued against them.

Before her departure from London for Pakistan earlier on Sunday, she told the media that so-called accountability of her family is ongoing for the past one year. It was not justice, but revenge, she said. She also said that she was returning to Pakistan to test the judicial system of the country.
