MUMBAI: A team of residents in Mumbai  decided to deal with lingering problem of potholes after they counted all such spots and now approached the Guinness World records to get their country listed for recognition.

Navin Lade, on behalf of Mumbaikars has applied to both Guinness World records and Limca Book of Record for having the maximum number of potholes on the roads.

Navin Lade, General secretary of the employment wing of the Republican Party of Indian (RPI), came up with the idea of entering the number of potholes in Mumbai to World records. There are about 27,363 potholes in Mumbai alone.

“It took our team 38 days to count and record all these potholes. We set out to find just 20,000 and ended up finding so many more. This exposes the sad reality of Mumbai’s crumbling infrastructure,” said Lade, who claimed to have spent Rs 4 lakh on the initiative.

The India Book of Records and Golden Book of Records has accepted the entry and are currently verifying the data. Although the Guinness Book of World Records has said that it is a political issue and that the organization does not want to get into it.
