KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday lambasted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-P (MQM-P) for making alliance to change the opposition leader in the National Assembly, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference following a crucial meeting of the PPP chaired by former president Asif Ali Zardari, the party leaders expressed full confidence on Khursheed Shah as opposition leader and said he was made the opposition leader in the NA with complete agreement of the political parties.

PPP leaders Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and others were also present on this occasion.

The PPP leaders said whosoever wanted to change the opposition leader, he should fulfill his whim by fulfilling the required numbers.

“PTI and MQM’s allegiance in this regard would be a big example of underhand deal,” they said.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s way of politics was quite baffling as he wanted to interfere in the opposition parties’ affairs as well besides ruling. The same way MQM would do politics, as it supported us and at the same time they were with the government as well, he said.

MQM-P and PTI on Tuesday reached a consensus on electing Vice Chairman PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi as opposition leader in the NA.

The consensus was reached after a PTI delegation visited the MQM headquarters in Karachi and discussed political affairs of Pakistan, said sources. They also reportedly deliberated on making strong opposition against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Sindh.

Leader of the Opposition in the NA Syed Khursheed Shah had already indicated that PTI and MQM-P were joining forces to oust him.

He said efforts were underway to remove him as the leader of the opposition in the lower house. “Both the opposition parties have united to oust me,” he said, adding that it was their democratic right to remove him, but they would be setting a new precedent in the country by doing so.

It is pertinent here to mention that PTI is divided over whom to nominate for the opposition leader as some want Shah Mehmood Qureshi to be the opposition leader while the others want Imran Khan to be elected as the opposition leader.
