PM Imran hails performance of power ministry

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday congratulated the power ministry for acting against power thieves and reducing line losses , ARY News reported.

Premier Khan, in his tweet said, “I want to congratulate the minister of power & his ministry for reducing line losses and boosting recoveries of the sector.

“One of the reasons for expensive electricity and load shedding is power theft”, the PM continued.

As per details, shared by the prime minister, line losses of the power sector reduced by 1.5 percent in month of October, yielding a saving of Rs 2billion.

Rs 11billion were collected from the defaulters, during the month of October, this year.

On November 17,  Omer Ayub Khan had directed the six power distribution companies to ensure 100 percent recovery of current electricity billing amounting to over 83 billion rupees for betterment of liquidity of power sector.

He was holding  a meeting of the Power Division in Islamabad  which was attended by, Federal Secretary Power Division Irfan Ali, officials of the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), chief executive officers of distribution companies (DISCOs) concerned and other officials of the Power Division.

The minister had directed the CEOs to eliminate theft and illegal hooking of electricity and take strict action against those involved in it with the help of Provincial Task Force established in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
