PTI believes in the freedom of press: CM Usman Buzdar

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar here on Thursday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leadership strongly believed in freedom of expression and press.

In his message on the eve of ‘World Press Freedom Day’, Sardar Usman Buzdar said that independent media was the best critic and a reflective of the society because the truth was the biggest reality which cannot be concealed.

According to a statement released from his office, Usman Buzdar said, “The freedom of the press is linked with the societal norm of responsibility.”

He said that journalists  dig out the truth for the sake of public interest which was praiseworthy and added that freedom of the press was the result of their longstanding struggle.

The chief minister said that “The sacrifices rendered by them for the cause of press freedom will always be remembered.”

“The Punjab government is working for the promotion journalism at regional and national levels and a new example will be set by relieving the media of the advertisements’ grip,” he added.

He further said that the press freedom in Pakistan would become a global example and necessary steps would be taken for providing protection to the journalists in the performance of their duties because the provision of a conducive atmosphere to them was the government’s top priority.
