LAHORE: Police on Thursday registered a case against Punjab Minister for Housing Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed’s son in a case pertaining to hindering the law enforcement agency’s work and torturing its personnel, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in Ghalib Market police station against Mehmoodur Rasheed’ son and his friends over immoral activities, torturing police officials and hindering the execution of their duties.

Police claim that they stopped a vehicle after spotting a boy and girl involved in immoral activities upon which the boy misbehaved with police and then called his friends who too tortured police personnel. The law enforcement agency claims that the vehicle is registered in the name of Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed’s son.

The PTI leader and provincial minister Mehmoodur Rasheed, on the other hand, did an emergency press conference after the news appeared on media channels and claimed that his son never tortured police officials.

He maintained that his son’s friends had organised a tea party at a famous restaurant and were on their way to the restaurant when at least three police officers stopped and their car and demaned Rs50,000 as bribe.

“Ali (his son’s friend) said he doesn’t have Rs50,000 and could only give them two thousand rupees upon which they tortured him,” said the PTI leader.

He added that Ali then telephoned his son for help upon which he reached the spot.

The minister, however, categorically denied that his son was involved in immoral activities or in torturing police personnel.

“I have asked him to cooperate with police in investigation and if his involvement is determined, I will resign from my post,” said the PTI leader.
