LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA-elect Malik Nadeem Abbas, who allegedly tortured police officers and held them hostage in Lahore, surrendered to police on Sunday.

He surrendered hours after Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of the incident and directed the Inspector General of Punjab police to arrest him.

Mr. Abbas, who returned on a provincial assembly seat, PP-161, allegedly beat SHO Rana Afzal and his driver Mumtaz along with his supporters when they both reached his guesthouse after getting a complaint about aerial firing and fireworks. He also held the police officials hostage.

While hearing a case at the apex court’s Lahore registry, the chief justice directed the provincial police chief to arrest the lawmaker and place his name on the Exit Control List (ECL).

IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam told the top judge that a first information report (FIR) had been registered against the PTI leader.
