MULTAN: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid on Monday announced that emergency departments of all hospitals in the province will now provide free medicine to patients, ARY News reported.

Addressing media in Multan, the health minister said that as a part of PTI-led government’s health reforms, the provincial setup has decided to direct all government-run hospitals in the province to provide free medicines in their emergency sections.

“We are also introducing health cards and will distribute them in 36 districts within three months. These (health cards) will be provided to people living below the poverty line,” said Yasmin Rashid.

Answering questions by reporters, the health minister lamented that the previous government only spent money on projects like the orange train and metro-buses while neglecting areas of human development and health sector.

“You will, God willing, see meaningful reforms within three months as PTI government promised,” said the minister.

She also said that the provincial government has directed all hospitals to appoint a formal spokesperson to brief media about any mishap or untoward incident in the medical facility.

About expediting the reforms process in South Punjab, she assured media that health facilities in South will be improved “on priority basis”.
