ISLAMABAD: In the view of recent terrorist attacks, the official visits of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to Sri Lanka and Maldives have been postponed.

According to diplomatic sources, the visits were deferred owing to security concerns in Sri Lanka after series of suicide attacks rocked the island country .

Qureshi was scheduled to depart for Maldives on May 2 on a day long visit, whereas the three-day tour to Sri Lanka had to start from May 3.

On April 21, a string of blasts ripped through high-end hotels and churches holding Easter services in Sri Lanka on Sunday, killing at least 259 people, injuring over 500 including 35 foreigners.

The extremist Islamic State group took the responsibility of the attacks after Sri Lankan officials said the suicide bombings in Sri Lanka were carried out in retaliation for attacks on two mosques in New Zealand that killed 50 people in March.

Pakistan had strongly condemned the barbaric explosive attacks across Sri Lanka that caused numerous casualties and huge loss of innocent lives.
