ISLAMABAD: Appearance of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Thursday is being considered a significant move in the country’s politics across the political divide, dubbing it a historic event.  

Talking to media, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said its first time that the premier has appeared for an inquiry session with the JIT.

“The prime minister has been summoned by the JIT, [however] he has not appeared of his own accord”, the PTI spokesperson remarked.

Chaudhry underlined that the premier must be considered as a suspect.

Bringing his concerns forward, he queried about the wealth of premier’s sons allegedly accumulated at very young age. “The prime minister has to give an explanation that how he set up the Nescol and Nielsen companies back in 1993,” he added.

He also urged for the logical conclusion of the Panamagate investigation.

Separately, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed have come down hard on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by reiterating that the premier has forsaken his due responsibilities after taking national wealth to abroad. “Nobody will come forward in solidarity with the premier,” he remarked while talking to ARY News.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter took to twitter, declaring the primer’s appearance before the JIT as historic.

In an initial tweet, she announced, “Prime Minister Leaves PM House for Judicial Academy. His comrades see him off”.

In another tweet she said, “The day that creates history & sets a much required & welcome precedent for others to emulate.”

In another tweet, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif said that the premier has upheld the rule of law by presenting himself before the JIT as ordinary citizen.
