ISLAMABAD: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique claimed on Tuesday that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has instructed his party leaders not to take part in any legislative process.

Speaking to media during the appearance of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif before the accountability court today, he said the PPP was not even able to explain its stance on the fresh delimitation of constituencies on the basis of the recently held population census.

Rafique said the PPP co-chairperson, who he said has maintained a tight grip over his party, was working on an unknown agenda.

Commenting on the Paradise Leaks, he claimed that these leaks were increasingly based on lies. No one should point fingers at anybody on the basis of these leaks, he advised.

He lamented that democracy was not allowed to take roots in Pakistan.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb, who also came to witness NAB court proceedings against the Sharif s, said an impression was being created that they were running away from courts.

The Sharif family members appearing before the court despite the fact that baseless charges were framed against them, she added.

Taking a swipe at the July 28 disqualification verdict, she said when corruption charges did not prove against Nawaz Sharif, he was ousted for concealing his UAE work permit.
