Security guards foil bank robbery attempt in Karachi

KARACHI: Two security guards on Friday foiled a bank robbery attempt through their valour in Karachi.

A CCTV footage shows that after four robbers on two motorcycles arrived at a private bank in Gulberg area of Karachi, one of the guards felt suspicion and intercepted them at the doorstep of the bank, whereas the other guard swiftly locked the front door from inside.

The dacoits shot and injured both the guards but failed to rob the bank. They, however, successfully managed to flee from the scene.

Later, the injured were shifted to hospital. Doctors said their condition was out of danger.

The guards were awarded appreciation certificates and Rs 10,000 cash prize each for their gallantry act. Police have lodged a case against the culprits, while an investigation is underway in this regard.

Last month, private security guards posted at a branch of a bank in Karachi’s SITE area stole five million rupees from its cash vault in the night.

According to police, at least two security guards along with some of their accomplices had broken into the bank late night and stole at least Rs 5.1 million from its cash vault.

The bank manager, in his statement, had told the law enforcement agency that he was informed about the incident by one of his colleagues earlier in the morning upon which he reached the bank and checked the locker, which was found empty.

The CCTV footage showed the two security guards and their accomplices used gas cutter and welding machine to open the locker.
