Top EU official lauds PM Khan’s handling of Pak-India situation

ISLAMABAD: European Union’s Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, on Monday called on the  Prime Minister Imran Khan and discussed matters of mutual interest, ARY News reported.

During the meeting, PM Khan said Pakistan give immense importance to the European Union and its allied countries. He also expressed satisfaction on relations between the EU and Pakistan.

He also appreciated enhancement in trade after Pakistan’s GSP Plus status by the EU.

The premier also briefed the European Union official about regional situation and Afghan peace process.

PM Khan also called upon EU representative to highlight Indian atrocities in the occupied-Kashmir. The EU official also appreciated PM’s handling of post-Pulwama attack situation with India.

He also assured cooperation from the European Union regarding Pakistan’s reforms agenda.

Earlier, Ms Mogherini had spoken to FM Qureshi by phone after tensions between Pakistan and Indian spiked in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident. She has asked for urgent de-escalation of the situation.

On March 21, the fifth round of Pakistan-EU Political Dialogue was co-chaired in Brussels by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard.

As per a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides held detailed exchange of views on regional peace and security, various facets of bilateral relations with a particular focus on trade and investment.
