ISLAMABAD: Former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, who were arrested late Friday night after their flight landed at Lahore airport, are expected to file today an appeal against the accountability court’s decision that convicted them in the Avenfield properties reference.

On July 6, Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in prison while his daughter and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar to seven years and one year’s jail term, respectively.

Safdar was arrested on July 8 while the former premier and his daughter were arrested late Friday night exactly a week after their conviction in the NAB case.

The 10-day time limit to file an appeal against a trial court’s verdict under NAB law is expiring on Monday. The three convicts – PML-N supreme leader, his daughter and son-in- law – will file separate appeals through their legal team against the July 6 verdict.

Sharif along with his daughter landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport from where they were taken to Islamabad on a private plane before being shifted to Adiala jail in a convoy of security vehicles.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested them as they returned from London via Abu Dhabi to face prison. Judicial magistrate Wasim Ahmed executed the warrants issued by Judge Muhammad Bashir for their arrest.
