SHC seeks reply on leaving Gharo-Keti Bunder Road incomplete

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought reply from the federal government, Sindh government and National Highway Authority (NHA) on April 11 for leaving Gharo-Keti Bunder Road incomplete despite spending Rs3.5 billion, ARY News reported on Friday.

The court has issued a notice to the authorities over not completing the project of construction of the road.

The petitioner relayed that the NHA had begun construction of the road in 2007 with an estimated amount of Rs3 billion.

He said the road could not be constructed until 2017.

The applicant said Rs500 million more were granted during the government of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif for the project. He said the project was then handed over to the provincial government in 2017.

“Neither the road could be constructed till date, nor it could be figured out that where the funds have been utilised,” he said.

In November 2018, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said that Karachi had been given top priority for development and 365 schemes worth 218.6 billion rupees had been launched against which allocation of Rs53 billion had been made in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2018-19.

The chief minister had said that 365 schemes of Rs218.6 billion had been launched through ADP against which Rs53 billion had been allocated. He added that he was satisfied that out of 365 schemes, 16 mega projects for the metropolis had been completed in 2016-17 while 17 other mega projects were near completion.
