NAROWAL: A man was arrested after he hurled a shoe at Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal while he was addressing a party workers’ convention in Narowal city of Punjab province, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News correspondent, a man named Bilal Haris hurled his shoe at Ahsan Iqbal while he was speaking to PML-N workers in Aliabad area of the city which reportedly didn’t touch the minister. PML-N workers, however, grabbed the 24-year old and handed him over to the police.

Later, the minister tweeted that the incident was just a “mischief by opponents” , adding that he also completed his speech and the event concluded without any interruption.

Sources say police later released the 24-year old without charge.

In March last year, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed too had to go through a similar situation when a man hurled a shoe at him at Lahore Railway Station where he arrived to attend the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) second edition.

In April 2014, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif narrowly escaped a shoe hurled at him during the inauguration of a three-day South Asia Labour Conference in Lahore.
