Sidhu expresses gratitude to PM Imran for opening Kartarpur border

NEW DELHI: Navjot Singh Sidhu, a renowned former cricketer and minister in the Indian Punjab, on Thursday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Pakistani government for opening Kartarpur border.

According to the details, Sidhu made a telephone call to senator Faisal Javed Khan and conveyed his sentiments saying that the Sikh community’s longstanding demand had been fulfilled by the Pakistani government.

He said Pakistan’s measures will bring peace and brotherhood among the two neighboring countries.

“I am thankful to Pakistani government form the bottom of my heart,” Sidhu said and added that he could not forget the love which he received in Pakistan.

While Senator Faisal Javed said that Pakistan wanted friendly relations with neighboring  countries and added that PTI’s government will leave no stone unturned for peace in the region.

It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Imran Khan will break ground on the Kartarpur facilities on Nov 28.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said in a tweet: “Pakistan has already conveyed to India it’s decision to open Kartarpura Corridor for Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary. PM Imran Khan will do break ground at Kartarpura facilities on 28th November. We welcome the Sikh community to Pakistan for this auspicious occasion.”

His tweet came on the heels of Indian government’s endorsement of Pakistan’s offer to open Kartarpur border to facilitate Sikh pilgrims travelling to Pakistan.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s civil-military leadership for fulfilling the Sikh community’s longstanding demand with regard to the Kartarpur border crossing.

Speaking at a press conference, Sardar Tara Singh, president of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, expressed great happiness over the decision to open Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and said the Sikh community’s longstanding demand had been fulfilled.
