Sikh pilgrims arrive in Lahore to celebrate Baba Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary

LAHORE: More than 3,500 Sikh pilgrims on Wednesday arrived in Lahore from India to participate in the 549th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nank in Gurduwara  Janam Istan in Nanaka Sahib. 

The Foreign Office spokesperson, Dr Mohammad Faisal said: “On #Eidmiladunnabi Pakistan also welcomes Sikh pilgrims from all over the world, (only our mission in New Delhi has issued more than 3500 visas) for the 549 birth anniversary celebrations of #BabaGuruNanak in #Nankanasahib from 21-30 November 2018.”

“As a progressive, moderate Islamic state we proudly follow the Islamic principles which taught respect for all religions way before the human rights charter came into existence,” he said in another tweet.

Earlier, officials of the Evacuee Trust Properties Board received Sikh pilgrims at the Wagah railways station.

The ETPB spokesman Aamir Hashmi said that main ceremony will be held on the 23rd of this month at Nankana Sahib and the Sikh pilgrims will also visit the Hassanabdal on 24th, Lahore 26th, Rohri 28th and will return to India on 30th of November.

Foolproof security measures have been taken to ensure the protection of the pilgrims.
