Sindh government extends special powers of Rangers in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Government has signed a summary of extension in special powers to Pakistan Rangers Sindh in Karachi on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

The summary was signed by Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah extending special police powers to Rangers for 90 days in Karachi, effective from January 6 till April 5.

The paramilitary force has been playing its effective role in curbing heinous crime in the metropolis.

Earlier in the day, Rangers and Police launched a joint operation at the mobile market near Sakhi Hassan area of Karachi.

According to sources, the joint operation was conducted on intelligence reports.

There were reports of sale of stolen and snatched mobile devices in the market, sources said.

Large contingents of rangers and police were deployed at the roads leading to the market.

Police officers including SHO Taimuriya police station were also present at the place.

The government had initiated the Rangers led targeted operation in Karachi in September, 2013, to curb terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, targeted killings and other heinous crimes in the port city after a wave of criminal incidents in the metropolis.
